If you’re using QuickBooks 2017 or earlier, you may have received notices about your software support being discontinued at the end of May. Support for QuickBooks 2017 will end on May 31, 2020. What’s the cheapest way to update? If you are not using the payroll features, the older versions will continue to function. However, if you have employees, the best option for a non-profit organization is to purchase QuickBooks from TechSoup.org for $60.
Has your organization joined TechSoup? The process is straightforward, providing a copy of your 501(c)3 letter. If you’re a member of the United Church of Christ, you’ll find a copy of the 1964 letter on pages 180-83 of the Church Finance Handbook linked here. If others on your staff wish to order software, you can set them up as a sub-user of your congregation’s account.
Then, once your membership is approved, you can order software. Search for QuickBooks Premier 2020. A one-user license is sufficient if only one person at a time uses your QuickBooks file. Otherwise, a three-user license is available for $150. When you install the software, choose the Non-Profit version, and then open your congregation’s existing QB file in the new version. Keep in mind that once you’ve opened your congregation’s QB file in a newer version, you won’t be able to open it in the older versions.
