QuickBooks Desktop 2024 Subscriptions

If you use QuickBooks Desktop, you have likely received incorrect notices or calls from Intuit that say that QuickBooks is being discontinued. This is not true. Intuit has made major changes to the way it sells its QuickBooks Desktop product, and their sales teams are deceptively trying to sell their QuickBooks online product in its place. However, QBO has very limited features, only works when connected to the internet, is considerably slower than QB Desktop, and is not able to easily keep track of a nonprofit’s restricted funds.

Intuit will no longer support QB Desktop 2021 after May 31, 2024, which means it will not be able to connect to automatic payroll tax table updates. To continue with updated versions of QB Desktop, you will need to purchase an annual subscription to QuickBooks Desktop Pro. Another alternative is to continue to use QB Desktop 2021 for no cost, but without the automatic payroll functionality or further updates to the software. While not subscribing may save money now, it is very important to understand that Intuit has declared they will not accept any new QB Desktop subscribers after July 31, 2024.

We have been researching the simplest and least expensive way to subscribe. So far, it looks like $649 per year, but two years ago, when Intuit stopped allowing TechSoup to sell QB Desktop to non-profits at a discounted price, an Intuit supervisor assured us that there would be a non-profit discount available directly from Intuit. So it will be best not to purchase the full price subscription until we can find out how to get the discount, or at least confirm that Intuit was not being truthful in 2022.

While we continue to try to get information from Intuit, you can get ready to subscribe by verifying that you are able to log in to your Intuit account. From within QuickBooks, in the Help dropdown menu, select “Manage My QuickBooks Account.” Or go to camps.intuit.com. Enter your Intuit User ID and password and Sign In. (Note that these are different from your QuickBooks User ID and password.) Once logged in, on the right side, verify that the account is listed under the organization’s name and address. On the left side, review the Primary contact and the users and make sure that their email and phone is correct for two-factor authentication.

Once we verify the best price, then you will be able to purchase an annual subscription to QuickBooks Desktop, keep a credit/debit card on file, and then access your Intuit account each year sometime between November and May to upgrade your QB Desktop software to the next year’s product.

AT THE VERY LEAST, PLAN TO MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR QB DESKTOP 2021 FILE AND KEEP YOUR QB PRO 2021 SOFTWARE SO THAT YOU HAVE AN ACCESSIBLE ARCHIVE OF YOUR HISTORICAL DATA.
